Planning a Holiday Party: The Season That Makes or Breaks Your Event

Planning a Holiday Party: The Season That Makes or Breaks Your Event

A holiday party is a different animal. Guests drink more (20 to 30 percent above a typical event), they expect more (this is the one company gathering people actually want to attend), and the calendar is tight. Everyone wants the first two weeks of December, and every venue fills up fast.

Here is what we have learned from years of holiday events across Oklahoma, so you can plan yours with confidence.

Why Your Holiday Party Is Different

Guests Drink More

Holiday parties consistently see 20 to 30 percent higher per-person consumption than a comparable event the rest of the year. It is a celebration, the mood is festive, and nobody has an early meeting waiting. Plan your alcohol quantities with that in mind, because the usual "one drink per person per hour" rule will leave you short.

The Booking Window Is Tight

Everyone wants the same two weeks. If you are planning a December party, book your bartending team by October. By November, the best crews are already spoken for. This is not a sales push, it is simply calendar math, and booking early means you get the team you want.

Your Crowd Is Mixed

A company holiday party brings together executives, new hires, and everyone in between. Your bartenders need to read the room, serve professionally, keep the pacing comfortable, and handle the occasional over-enthusiastic guest gracefully, without making a scene. That is exactly what a seasoned crew does for you.

Holiday Cocktails Your Guests Will Love

Crowd-pleasers:

  • Cranberry Moscow mule (festive color, almost universally liked)
  • Pomegranate champagne cocktail (elegant and photogenic)
  • Gingerbread espresso martini (the standout cocktail of the 2025 to 2026 holiday season)
  • Warm spiced cider with bourbon (comfort in a cup)

Easy to batch for a crowd:

  • Holiday punch (scales easily for 100 or more guests)
  • Mulled wine station (low maintenance, big on atmosphere)
  • Hot cocoa bar with spirit add-ons (rum, bourbon, peppermint schnapps)

Zero-proof holiday drinks:

  • Cranberry-rosemary spritzer
  • Warm apple cider with cinnamon
  • Pomegranate-ginger fizz

Planning a Corporate Holiday Party

Open bar or drink tickets: Many companies choose drink tickets (two to four per person) to manage cost and liability. It is a smart move that sets a clear boundary without feeling stingy. For a three-hour event, we usually recommend three tickets per person.

Branding touches: Custom cocktail names, branded napkins, and garnishes in your company colors are small details that make the night feel planned with care rather than thrown together.

Peace of mind on liability: A company party carries real responsibility. Professional bartenders are trained to serve responsibly and keep the night safe, which is one of the best reasons to hire a pro crew instead of running a do-it-yourself bar.

Planning a Private Holiday Party

Friendsgiving, New Year's Eve, and holiday open houses are growing faster than corporate events in our bookings. The approach is a little different for your gathering at home:

  • A more casual, relaxed service style
  • More creative and playful cocktail menus
  • Smaller guest counts (30 to 80 is typical)
  • Often hosted at a private home, where we bring everything you need

New Year's Eve deserves a special note. It is the single highest-consumption night we serve, so plan for 30 to 40 percent above normal and include a champagne toast at midnight. We pre-pour the champagne starting at 11:45 so every guest has a glass ready the moment the ball drops.

Your Booking Timeline

  • September: Start planning. Lock in your date and venue.
  • October: Book your bartending team. Finalize your cocktail menu.
  • November: Confirm your headcount. Get your custom shopping list so you can buy the alcohol (we build the list, you make the purchase).
  • First week of December: Final details. Confirm setup time and logistics.

The holidays are the best time of year in our world, and the most rewarding to plan. A great holiday bar creates memories that last long after the season ends, and we would love to build yours.

Peak Season, Peak Standards

"We keep a deep roster of bartenders, and it grows every season," says Bar-Key founder Patrick Wilson. During the holidays, that roster matters to you. Thanksgiving through New Year's is our busiest stretch, and crews that are available, experienced, and well taken care of will always serve your guests better than a last-minute hire.

"We always take care of our people," Patrick adds. That is more than a value, it is how we make sure your event is staffed by bartenders who know our standards and come back season after season.
